Support Coordinator Registration: What February 2026 Means for the Policy

Xyston Support Coordination Team 1 January 2026 2 min read

When mandatory Support Coordinator registration was paused in mid-2025, the NDIS Commission indicated that policy development would resume from February 2026. As we begin 2026, here’s what we know and what to expect.

Information current as of January 2026. Policy is subject to change. This article is general information only — not NDIS, legal, or financial advice.

Where things stand

Mandatory registration for Support Coordinators has not been cancelled — it has been delayed. The stated reason for the pause was to allow further reform planning and sector readiness activities.

The February 2026 date refers to the resumption of policy development, not an implementation date. A new implementation date has not yet been set.

What to expect in early 2026

The NDIS Commission is expected to release:

  • Updated consultation materials on the registration framework for Support Coordinators
  • A revised timeline for implementation
  • Possible changes to the audit and registration requirements based on sector feedback

Industry bodies representing Support Coordinators have been engaging with the Commission throughout the pause period, advocating for a tiered or phased approach that reduces the administrative burden on small and sole-trader coordinators.

What does this mean for Xyston participants?

Nothing changes for you in the short term. Xyston is already a registered NDIS provider (Provider No. 4050127478), so regardless of how the registration policy evolves, we operate under the NDIS Commission’s quality and safeguarding framework.

The policy developments in 2026 primarily affect unregistered Support Coordinators — sole traders and small providers who have been operating without registration under the current rules.

Why registration matters

Registration means:

  • Regular audits against the NDIS Practice Standards
  • Workers covered by NDIS Worker Screening
  • Mandatory incident reporting obligations
  • A formal complaints pathway through the NDIS Commission

Participants with registered Support Coordinators have a clearer avenue for accountability if something goes wrong.

What to watch

We’ll continue to update participants as the Commission releases further guidance through the first half of 2026. If you have questions about your coordinator’s registration status, ask directly — any registered provider can confirm their registration number, which you can verify at ndis.gov.au.
