SIL and Platform Providers: Mandatory Registration Coming July 2026

Xyston Support Coordination Team 1 October 2025 2 min read

While Support Coordinator registration was paused for further review, a separate registration requirement is proceeding as planned: Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers and platform-based NDIS providers must be registered by 1 July 2026.

Information current as of October 2025. This article is general information only — not NDIS, legal, or financial advice.

Who does this apply to?

The July 2026 deadline applies to:

  • SIL providers — organisations delivering 24-hour or overnight supports in shared living arrangements
  • Platform providers — digital platforms that match participants with support workers (including on-demand worker platforms)
  • Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) providers — already required to be registered but subject to updated obligations under new legislation

Why are SIL providers being prioritised?

SIL participants are considered higher-risk due to:

  • The intensity and intimacy of supports (24/7 environments)
  • Reduced independence compared to community-based participants
  • Historical incidents of abuse and neglect in residential settings
  • Limited ability of some participants to self-advocate when things go wrong

The mandatory registration requirement is intended to ensure all SIL providers are subject to the NDIS Commission’s audit and oversight regime.

What about platform providers?

On-demand platforms that connect participants with casual support workers had existed in a grey area — they facilitated NDIS service delivery without being subject to provider registration requirements. The new rules close this gap.

From July 2026, a platform that earns revenue by connecting participants with workers using NDIS funding must be registered and accountable for the workers on its platform.

What does this mean for participants currently using unregistered SIL or platform services?

You may need to transition. If your current SIL provider or platform does not achieve registration by July 2026, you will not be able to continue using NDIS funding to access their services.

Your Support Coordinator should be monitoring this on your behalf — particularly if you are in a SIL arrangement — and flagging any providers who have not commenced their registration process.

Questions to ask your provider now

  1. Have you begun your NDIS Commission registration process?
  2. What is your expected registration completion date?
  3. What will happen to my supports if you are not registered by July 2026?
