Support Coordinator Registration — Paused: What Happens Now

Xyston Support Coordination Team 1 August 2025 2 min read

In mid-2025, the mandatory registration requirement for NDIS Support Coordinators — originally scheduled to commence in July 2025 — was paused by the NDIS Commission for further consideration. Here’s what this means.

Information current as of August 2025. Policy is subject to change. This article is general information only — not NDIS, legal, or financial advice.

What was planned?

The 2024 NDIS Amendment Act included provisions requiring all Support Coordinators (Levels 1, 2, and 3) to be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. The original implementation date was July 2025.

Why was it paused?

The NDIS Commission announced that mandatory registration would be paused while the government undertook further reform planning. Feedback from the sector indicated concerns about:

  • The readiness of unregistered providers to complete audits on the required timeline
  • Potential disruption to participants who rely on unregistered coordinators in rural or thin markets
  • The need to align registration requirements with broader NDIS reform changes in progress

The Commission indicated that policy development and market readiness activities would resume from February 2026.

What does this mean for participants?

If your coordinator is already registered: Nothing changes. You continue to receive services from a registered, quality-assured provider.

If your coordinator is unregistered: They are not currently required to register by a set date. However, mandatory registration remains policy intent — it has been delayed, not cancelled. Participants using unregistered coordinators should monitor this space.
