Under the 2024 NDIS Amendment Act, mandatory registration for all Support Coordinators (Levels 1, 2, and 3) was announced. Here’s what participants need to understand about this change.
Information current as of March 2025. Registration timelines are subject to change. This article is general information only — not NDIS, legal, or financial advice.
Why is registration being required?
Currently, some Support Coordinators operate as unregistered providers. Unregistered providers are not subject to the same quality and safeguarding requirements as registered providers — they don’t undergo audits, aren’t required to meet specific standards, and aren’t formally overseen by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
The government’s view is that Support Coordination is a high-impact role — coordinators hold significant influence over participants’ plans, provider choices, and overall wellbeing. Mandatory registration ensures all coordinators meet baseline quality and safety standards.
What does registration involve?
Registered providers must:
- Meet the NDIS Practice Standards
- Undergo independent audits (the type depends on the size of the organisation)
- Register formally with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission
- Maintain ongoing compliance
What does this mean for participants?
If your coordinator is already registered (like Xyston): no change. You’re already protected by the quality and safeguarding framework.
If your coordinator is unregistered: they will need to register by the deadline or you will need to transition to a registered provider. The NDIA will provide information and support for participants in this situation.
What should I do now?
Check whether your Support Coordinator is registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. You can verify this on the NDIS Provider Finder.
Xyston is a registered NDIS provider (Provider No. 4050127478). Your coordinator is already subject to full quality and safeguarding requirements.
