End-of-Year NDIS Checklist: 5 Things to Do Before 31 December

Xyston Support Coordination Team 1 December 2024 2 min read

December is a good time to review your NDIS situation before the holiday slowdown. Many providers reduce capacity over Christmas and New Year, and NDIA processing times can be longer. Here are five things worth doing before 31 December.

Information current as of December 2024. This article is general information only — not NDIS, legal, or financial advice.

1. Check your plan end date

Know when your current plan expires. Plans don’t automatically renew without a review — if your plan is nearing its end date, you need to have a plan review scheduled. Contact your Support Coordinator now if this is coming up.

2. Review your budget

Log into the my NDIS portal or speak with your plan manager to check your current spending across each category. Are you on track? Significantly underspent? Running low in a critical category? December is the time to adjust service bookings or make changes while providers are still available.

3. Confirm services over the holiday period

Find out which of your providers will be operating over Christmas and New Year. Some reduce hours or close entirely. If you rely on personal care or daily supports, confirm arrangements now — and have a backup plan.

Note: Providers may apply public holiday rates over this period. Check your service agreements.

4. Update your goals

Have your goals changed? NDIS plans are built around what you want to achieve. If your life circumstances or priorities have shifted over the past year, document these so they’re ready to discuss at your next plan review.

5. Check provider registrations

Under the 2024 changes, there are new registration requirements coming for some provider types. Check that your key providers remain registered with the NDIS Commission — your Support Coordinator can help with this.

A note on response times

The NDIA, plan managers, and providers often have reduced capacity from mid-December through early January. If you have urgent requests — plan reviews, plan management changes, or support setup — act before mid-December.
